Applied Thermochemical Energy Converters
The research group Applied Thermochemical Energy Converters (ATEC) works in the development and application of laser-based diagnostics, which are used in the context of thermochemical conversion processes. Typical applications include combustion engines, gas turbines and power plant processes.

High Temperature Process Diagnostics
The research group High Temperature Process Diagnostics (HTPD) is currently working on the development and application of innovative laser-based diagnostic methods for the investigation of the exhaust gas composition of modern internal-combustion engines as well as other combustion systems. Measurement techniques include Tunable Diode Laser Absorption Spectroscopy (TDLAS), Continuous Wave Cavity Ring-Down Spectroscopy (cw-CRDS), SuperContinuum Laser Absorption Spectroscopy (SCLAS), Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR), Limited Data Tomography (LDT) and Linear Hyperspectral Absorption Tomography (LHAT).

Modelling and Simulation of Technical Energy Systems
The research group MSTE focuses on developing and improving new and existing models for a thermodynamically consistent description of technical energy systems. Our objective is to gain the best possible understanding of the processes taking place and their interactions, and to support the design and optimization tasks of energy systems with reliably accurate predictions. In this respect, MSTE participates in various national and international research projects in cooperation with partners from other research institutes and from industry.

Chemical reaction engineering of catalytic processes
The (part of the faculty of chemistry) deals with reaction engineering of catalytic processes. They combine insights from reactor simulations with experimental data from our own test benches and plants of industry partners to understand catalytically active systems as exhaust gas catalysts or the industrial ammonia oxidation.
